Joseph R. Vito, 48, Carbondale died at home on Wednesday.
 
Born in Carbondale, son of Richard Monte Vito and Roseanne Scarfalloto and the late Nick Scarfalloto, Joe was a spirited entrepreneur who owned many successful businesses.
 
Every fall, Joe looked forward to opening his pumpkin stand where you would find him smiling brightly and generously giving away pumpkins. He loved to be around people smiling and laughing. It gave him joy to make others happy. He was a charismatic, charming and very generous person, who had a infectious smile, and made people laugh and smile every day. He cherished every minute spent with his daughter, Katie… his world revolved around her. She was his everything… his one true love.
 
Surviving are: a daughter, Katelyn Marie Vito; four sisters, Bernadette Bier and husband, Tommy, Mayfield; Laura Berrios and husband, Carlos, Whites Crossing; Joanne Scarfalloto and husband, Joseph, Staten Island; Nicole Vito, Jessup; three brothers, Richard Vito, Whites Crossing; Marco Scarfalloto, Odessa Texas; Mario Scarfalloto, New Orleans; cousins, Keith Tolerico and Brian Tolerico, Carbondale and many other cousins; Jimmy Rogari, his best and most loyal friend since childhood, Carbondale; Lisa Depoti, a devoted and loyal companion for many years, Mayfield; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by a brother, Salvatore Scarfalloto.
 
The funeral will be Wednesday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
 
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 pm until 7 pm. Due to Covid-19 protocols, masks and social distancing are required. Please limit conversation so those in attendance may visit in a timely manner.
 
For those who may desire, the family encourages a sealed personal note be written to Joe… those sealed thoughts will be placed with Joe.
