Yolanda “Lonnie” (Brango) Gabriel
January 8, 2021

Yolanda “Lonnie” (Brango) Gabriel, 88, Carbondale, died peacefully Friday evening at her son’s home. She was the wife of the late Lawrence A. Gabriel Sr., funeral director, who passed away in 2013.

Born in Phoenixville PA, daughter of the late Neil and Angelina Daddona (Brancaccio) Brango, she was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale, a proud member of its Altar and Rosary Society and its church choir. Lonnie enjoyed volunteering for all church functions, including its yearly spaghetti supper, feast, as well as its distribution of Easter bread. She worked as a waitress for her sister-in-law and husband at the Mountain View Restaurant, Justus, and was the former owner of the West Side Hoagie shop, Carbondale.

Lonnie was a gifted cook and loved any time her family gathered in order to enjoy one of her meals. She especially enjoyed providing the traditional Sunday dinner for her family and preparing the annual holiday feasts. She looked forward to her annual trip to the beach. On many occasions, dozens of Carbondale families vacationed together in Ocean City, Maryland. It became a tradition that Lonnie would spend one day preparing meals to share with several Carbondaleans.

She was an ever-present figure in the daily lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She took great pride in attending any extracurricular activity that her family was a part of. Her calming, comforting, and supportive presence will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her four children; Lawrence A. Gabriel Jr. and wife, Linda, Carbondale; Ramona Gabriel-Cohn, Woodland Hills, CA; Francine Gabriel and wife, Dr. Theresa Baseski, Forty Fort; and Gary Gabriel and wife, Colette, Birdsboro; 13 grandchildren; Lawrence A. Gabriel III, Landon Gabriel and partner Olivia Burke, Logan Gabriel and wife, Jenna, Lincoln Gabriel and fiancée, Mary Newak, Lance Gabriel, Alexandra Cohn, J.P. Cohn and fiancée Karli Phillips, Jonathan Cohn and partner Alea Armintrout, Hannah, Emily, and Julia Gabriel, Gaige and Jackson Gabriel; 5 great grandchildren; Arianna Diaz, Levi, Leyland, Layton Gabriel, and Aria Gabriel; a brother, Richard Brango, Phoenixville; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by 5 brothers; Carl, John, Albert, Carmen Joseph, and Joseph Brango; 4 sisters; Martha Fanelli, Mary Calcinore, Jean Orner, and Loretta (Babe) Lombardi. She was also preceded in death by 3 additional siblings who passed away at a young age; Carmen Brancaccio, Concetta Helen Brancaccio, and Lugrezia Brancaccio.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 2 Hospital Street, Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
