Joan Hladick Brenzel
January 31, 2021

Joan Hladick Brenzel passed away Sunday at Elmcroft of Mid Valley due to complications of COVID-19 and Alzheimer’s disease. She was the widow of Eugene Brenzel Sr., who passed away on Dec. 9, 1997.

Born Sept. 13, 1935, in Jermyn, she was the daughter of the late Max and Olga Witiak Hladick. She was a graduate of Jermyn High School. Joan was a member of St. John’s Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Mayfield. Before retiring, Joan was the office manager for the Brenzel Insurance Agency.

Joan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved polka dancing in her early years, playing board games, cards and pinochle with her family and friends. Her favorite moments were spent at family gatherings, spending time with her beloved pet, Brandy the “pug,” making ravioli, pierogi and cappelletti with her children, Donna and Gene; family vacation week at Diamond Beach, N.J., and most of all, moments spent with her grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Sharon, Nicole, Cindy, Ryan, DeAnna, Andrea and all of the staff at Elmcroft Memory Care; Theresa and JoEllen from Dr. Bekele’s staff and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care and support. We would also like to thank Joan’s neighbors and our family and friends for their love and constant support.

Joan is survived by: her daughter, Donna Depoti and husband, Joseph; her son, Gene Brenzel and partner, Kevin Buente; her grandchildren, Jordon Depoti and significant other, Emily Port; Christian Depoti; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Hladick.
