Rose Marie Cuce
April 28, 2021

Rose Marie Cuce, 90, Carbondale, died Wednesday at Carbondale Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Her husband of 60 years was the late Anthony Cuce.

Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Chris and Mildred Stungis Mazza, she resided in the house she was born in for nearly her entire life. Rose Marie, who celebrated her 90th birthday on March 5, was a 1949 graduate of Carbondale Benjamin Franklin High School. She sold family wedding invitations for a family-owned printing business for more than 50 years; worked at Bond’s Jewelry (sales and bookkeeping); worked in sales at Banner Shoe Store; and organized bus trips to Woodloch Pines. She enjoyed bingo at the South High Rise and solving puzzles and find-a-word. Her sons were the joy of her life. Her family fondly recalls one of her most frequent reminders was: “It’s five o’clock, we have to eat.” Rose Marie was a former member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel’s Altar and Rosary Society and was a volunteer for years at the parish’s spaghetti supper and feast celebration.

The family extends its sincere gratitude to the entire staff at the Carbondale Nursing Home, especially to her roommate, Mary Ann Langan, who was her guardian angel; and to the staff at Traditional Hospice.

Survivors include two sons, James Cuce and wife, Kathy (Rosler) Cuce; and Joseph Cuce; a brother, Joey Mazza; a sister-in-law, Susie Mazza, all of Carbondale; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nate Mazza and Dominick Mazza; and a sister, Betty Julia.

The funeral will be Monday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 2 Hospital St., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Twp.

Friends may call on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Masks and social distancing required.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carbondale Nursing Home Activities Fund, 10 Hart Place, Carbondale PA 18407 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
