Eileen Mathews, 75, Scranton, died Saturday at Allied Hospice, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Mathews III.
 
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late William and Jane Hudson Ogborne, she held a Master’s Degree in Nursing and was a graduate of CMC School of Nursing where she graduated first in her class. She also held degrees in Geriatrics, Family Studies and Human Development. During her career, Eileen worked at various hospitals and rehabilitation centers. In her later professional career, home health care was her favorite. She was a supervisor at Taylor Nursing and Rehabilitation where she had retired from. She enjoyed swimming and spending time with friends; volunteering at the food pantry, and caring for and helping others in need. She especially loved the ocean and looked forward to spending time in Ocean Grove NJ also known as God’s Square Mile. She was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and earned various medals and honors.
 
Survivors include: a daughter, Jennifer Martirano and husband, Anthony, Waymart; a son, Louis Gambucci and wife, Susan, Covington Twp.; grandchildren, Briana Heater and husband Carl, Courtney Gambucci, Christopher Smigiel, Justin Martirano and Andrew Martirano; great grandchildren, Brock Hudak and Bridget Hudack; a sister, Ellen Marcho and husband, Chris, Clifford; several nieces and nephews and her horse, William. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Smigiel and two sisters, Joyce Baron and Nancy Rosler.
 
Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
 
Arrangements by Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale. Interment, Jermyn Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the funeral home website.
