It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Dzwonczyk. Tom passed away on Nov. 28 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.

Born in Elizabeth, N.J. on June 8, 1967, he was the son of the late Stanley and Philomena Renna Dzwonczyk. He attended McCauley School for Special Children. Tom returned to Pennsylvania in 1978 with his mother to take care of his grandmother. Upon his return to Pa., he schooled at Carbondale Area for Special Needs Children. After graduation, Tom worked in the Garden Center at NEIU and also volunteered in the kitchen at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Carbondale and along with the late Danny Romeo served as Special Needs Altar Servers. Tom was cared for by his sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Jerry, for nine years after his Dad’s passing. Tom also attended Merakey Day Program where he loved doing Arts and Crafts and listening to his favorite music. His favorite songs were Elvira and Your Cheatin’ Heart.

The family would like to thank the Nursing staff and Clergy at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care during his short stay. A special thank you to his three favorite caregivers at home, Jaime, Kelly and Brenda.

Tom is survived by his sister Donna and brother-in-law, Jerry Arnese; nephews, Gerald Jr. and Michael Arnese; great nieces, Giana and Ashleigh Arnese; Aunt, Mary Dzwonczyk; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Michael and Philomena Renna; and paternal grandparents, John and Eva Dzwonczyk.

The funeral will be held on Thursday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment to follow in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Twp.. Those attending the funeral please go directly to church.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 until 7 p.m.
