James “Tarzan” Heenan Sr.

James “Tarzan” Heenan Sr., Waymart, died Thursday at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Agnes Keller Heenan. The couple shared 40 years together.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Roger and Mildred O’Connor Heenan, he was educated in the Carbondale public school system and served in the United States Army. He was employed at Chamberlin for 35 years prior to his retirement.

Jim’s pride and joy was his large, wonderful family. He loved when his children and their families got together for the holidays. He enjoyed the laughter and shenanigans that would inevitably ensue. He maintained life-long friendships and was willing to go out of his way to be a friend. Whether meeting up in the park for conversation and coffee, or lending a hand, he valued the deep connections with friends. He enjoyed the peace of living at the lake and took pride in his yard and outdoor space.

Jim is survived by: his five children, Claire Heenan, Tammy Arthur, both of Carbondale; Jim Heenan and wife, Melissa; Christopher Heenan and wife Barb, all of Waymart; Joseph Heenan and his wife, Yesenia, Scranton; their mother and Jim’s first wife, Delores Harris, Carbondale; one sister, Claire Lewis and companion, Joseph Zaccone, Carbondale; two brothers, Raymond Heenan and wife, Bea, Texas; Patrick Heenan and wife, Judy, Carbondale; 17 grandchildren, Courtney, Olivia, Collin, Cora, Morgan, Gavin, Madison and Yaiden Heenan; Jeffrey, Seth, Chase and Logan Arthur; Yetsiel and Yessian Flores; Alyssa Robinson and husband, Richie; Victoria Corey; Christopher Heenan and fiancée Skylar Murphy; two sisters-in-law, Patti Yasinovich, Waymart; Michelle Dixon and husband, Gene; a special nephew, Joey Yasinovich, Carbondale; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bernadette Cory; grandson, Zachary Arthur; four brothers, Thomas, Jack, Roger and Joseph Heenan; three sisters, Mary Heenan, Marcella Smith, Jane Tolerico; brother-in-law, Joseph Yasinovich.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday from 10 until 11 a.m. in Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale. Military Honors at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.

A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Monday from 4 until 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the funeral home website. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
