Elaine P. VanLeuven, 94, Honesdale, formerly of Carbondale, died Monday at Ellen Memorial Care Center, Honesdale. Her husband was the late Lewis VanLeuven.

Born in Freeland, she was the daughter of the late Ervin and Esther Rolls Schuster.  Elaine enjoyed camping, traveling, knitting and crocheting, and was active in the Carbondale First Presbyterian Church Women’s Association for many years. She also loved animals, especially cats. The family would to extend their sincerest thanks to the staff at Ellen Memorial for their care.

Surviving family members include: two sons, Wayne VanLeuven and wife, Sharon, Carbondale; Larry VanLeuven and fiancée, Leenie Locilento, Vandling; grandchildren, Tori VanLeuven and fiancé, Brandon Carey, Fla.; Amy Anderson and husband, Gary, Carbondale; Sara Amacio and husband, Matt, Maine; Jessica Hefty and husband, Nick, Washington; great grandchildren, Allison Amacio; Xavier Amacio; Levon Anderson; Wyatt Anderson; a sister, Dorothy Barney, Lenoxville; several nieces and nephews; companion, Raymond Holstein.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Lavern Schuster; a sister, Joan Doud; a daughter-in-law, Allison VanLeuven.

The funeral will be held Wednesday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale. A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Wolfe, First Presbyterian Church, Carbondale, providing a prayer service at 12:45 p.m. Interment, Jermyn Cemetery.
