Marcia (Duchnik)Thomas, 72, of Middletown, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, November 14, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Born August 2, 1952, in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late former Mayor Nicholas Duchnik and Veronica (Rutkowski) Duchnik.
A proud graduate of Mid Valley High School, Class of 1970, Marcia was an active member of Seven Sorrows BVM Church in Middletown and the Eagle Hose Company Lady’s Auxiliary in Dickson City. She also served with the Dickson City Community Ambulance. Professionally, Marcia worked as a court mediator for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Phoenix, AZ, and as an internal auditor for Community Bank and Trust Company in Forest City, PA.
Marcia loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. Marcia loved watching football and was the #1 fan of her granddaughter’s semi-pro tackle football team.
Marcia is survived by her two children, son Jeffrey Thomas II and his wife Cindy, and daughter Tiffany Thomas; her three grandchildren, Kaeli, Mia, and Jeffrey III; her sisters, Barbara Kucha and Carolyn Elvidge; and her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Duchnik.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Duchnik Sr.; two nephews, Thomas Duchnik Jr. and David Duchnik Jr.; two nieces, Patricia Cooke and Debby Blanchard; and her brothers-in-law, Edward Kucha and David Elvidge.
A Vigil Mass will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 6:00 PM at Seven Sorrows BVM Church, 280 N Race St, Middletown, PA 17057.
A Celebration of Life will follow on Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 1 to 3 PM at Lawrence Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale, with a dinner to follow the viewing.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Andrew A. Yurkanin Jr., Funeral Director.
