Gerard J. Fives Sr.
December 6, 2024

Gerard (Jerry) Joseph Fives Sr., 87, Carbondale, PA, passed away on December 6, 2024. His wife of 53 years, the late Marie Bianchi Fives, passed away in 2018.

Born and raised in Carbondale, PA, he was preceded in death by his parents, George and Regina (Steinbrecher) Fives. He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1955 and was a proud patriot who served in the Army and National Guard.

Jerry began his career in the sales business at Home Life Insurance and later at Prudential Insurance for 20 years. He enjoyed working with his hands and always had a construction project happening. His solid work ethic followed him home, where he undertook the construction of his own home in Carbondale, where he would live and raise his family for 40 years. Jerry had a business mindset and had the opportunity to purchase a small business in Carbondale in 1979. He became the proprietor of SINGER Plumbing and Heating Supply, where he operated the company, and retired 20 years later.

A devoted husband and father, Jerry always prioritized his family. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was an active member of St. Rose Parish. He found joy in playing the guitar, horseback riding, gardening, and golfing, and he was an accomplished billiards player. His greatest passion was his grandchildren, whom he adored and who brought him immense joy.

He is survived by his son, Gerard J. Fives Jr., and his wife, Sophia. (Naples, FL), and daughters Jill Fives Speer, husband Kirk (Tucson, AZ), Karen Fives Palutis, and husband Joseph (Bluebell, PA). Grandchildren Gerard J. Fives III and wife Alexia, James and wife Jillian, Lukas Fives, Joel, and Josh Palutis. Great-grandson Gerard J. Fives IV. and Sister, Rosanne Fives Davis (NJ).

Jerry was preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy Kelly, Ann Gavin, Rita O’Brien, Claire Fagan, Jean Wivell, Jane McCarthy, and brother James Fives.

A special thank you to Linda Jones, who assisted in Jerry’s care in his later years.
