Ronald “Scribby” Opeil, 74, Simpson, died Monday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. His wife of 45 years is Ann Guzzi Opeil.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Paul and Rose Tomaine Opeil, he owned and operated Opeil Flagstone Company for 50 years. Later in life, Ronnie worked for Lackawanna County Parks and Recreation Department. His love of life, family and friends was evident every day. Ronnie enjoyed and was very active in politics at the local and state level. Ron was affectionately known as Nunu by his grandchildren, He was called Uncle Ronnie by many as he was always willing to lend a hand. Ronnie was a chauffeur on many trips and could provide directions to any location. He enjoyed visiting the horse track.

In addition to his wife Ann, he is survived by: three daughters, Kelly Cerminaro and husband, Frank “Turk”, Fell Twp.; Pam Scarpa and partner, John Swift, Blakely; Roselyn Durkin and husband, Patrick, Carbondale; nine grandchildren, Bailey Brady and fiancé Samantha Arthur; Robbie Scarpa; Lucca Cerminaro; Gigi Cerminaro; Grazia Cerminaro; Abigail Carachilo; Sean Durkin and wife, Corinne; Conor Durkin; Pat Durkin; two great-grandchildren, Safira Brady; Elora Brady; sisters-in-law, Kathy Fawcett; Valerie Gallo; Debbie Thomas; several cousins.

The funeral will be Saturday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 2 Hospital St. Carbondale with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary’s Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Carbondale.

A viewing will be held Friday at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the funeral home website.
