Harold V. Ort,
June 26, 2018
Harold V. Ort, 77, Clifford Twp., died Tuesday evening at Regional Hospital, Scranton. His wife is the former Gloria MacDonald. Harold and Gloria celebrated their 50th anniversary on April 27. He adored his wife and cherished their time together.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Murrington and Viola Cesario Ort, he was a member of Electrician Union Local 81, spending his career as an ultimate professional in his craft. During his professional career, he provided his expertise to such local projects as Lakeland High School and WNEP-TV’s studio, among other facilities.
He had an extensive Lionel Train collection and surrounded the train platform by building a replica of the Carbondale Viaduct and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Harold enjoyed time spent in his workshop, building things and finding a solution to any problem that a friend might have with a piece of equipment or material. Always providing a helping hand, Harold was a father figure to many who valued his friendship. His niece, Fiorella, learned much from her uncle and noted Harold was a father figure to her, especially during her time here as an exchange student.
In addition to his wife, Gloria, he is survived by a son, Edward, California; a sister, Joanne Swartz, Carbondale; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Murrington Ort; two sisters; Corrine Blake and Janice Granville.
The funeral will be Saturday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Cremation to follow. Interment at a later date.
A viewing will be held Friday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
