Eugene Staschak
January 12, 2019
Eugene Staschak, 89, of Carbondale, passed away peacefully on Saturday.  His wife of 68 years is Mary Villano Staschak.
Born in Olyphant, son of the late Demko and Anna Kowtko Staschak, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by many.
Those who were fortunate enough to know him experienced his deep love of life, his warm sense of humor and consistent sense of gratitude. He and the love of his life, Mary, gave to others in countless ways. He was the good neighbor, the loving relative and the comforting friend.
Gene graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1947, an accomplished athlete where he was quarterback for the football team and pitcher for the baseball team. Gene worked as a crew leader for PPL. He was an accomplished builder, electrician, baker, fisherman and hunter. He was a founding member of the 0-6 Rod and Gun Club. He was especially happy in his “late in life” career of 40 years as Santa, especially enjoying his time with special needs children.
The family expresses their appreciation to the caregivers of Columbia Cottage, Wyomissing. Pa.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by a daughter, Michele Cambardella and husband, Bill Cambardella; a son, Eugene Staschak and wife, Sara Staschak; grandson, Michael Cambardella; granddaughter, Cara Maria Cambardella; many nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
He was also preceded in death by: his three-year-old daughter, Terry Ann; all his brothers and sisters, Alec, Martin, John, George, Joe, Michael, Alice, Olga, Nellie, Helen and Mary.
The funeral will be Wednesday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook St. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
Friends may call Wednesday at the funeral home from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Online condolences may be sent on the funeral home’s website.
