Veronica Martines, 88, of Carbondale, died Monday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. Her husband was the late Joseph Martines.
Born in Whites Crossing, daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Danko Gorel, she was a supervisor for Kmart for more than 30 years before retirement. She enjoyed her morning coffee with friends and playing cards at night.
The family extends its sincere gratitude to the Creekside Rehabilitation Center staff, Carbondale, for the great care the staff provided for a number of years.
Surviving are four sons, Salvatore (Sam) Martines and wife, Jennifer, Carbondale; Michael Martines and wife, Mary Lee, Vandling; Matthew A. Martines, Carbondale; and Joseph Martines and wife, Joan, Carbondale; grandchildren, Kristen Martines Hodnett, Jillian Evarts, Tara Sheare, Marlie, Michaela, Malinda, Matthew, Christopher and Brian Martines; great-grandchildren, Gwenevere Sheare, Adelyn Evarts, Ethan Matthew Decker, Brian Sheare, Stanley Sheare and Maximiliano Martines; and a sister, Ann Wengrin, Bellville, N.J.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Michael, John, Andrew and Joseph; and three sisters, Mary Russell, Kathryn Falong and Rose Lutchko.
The funeral will be Friday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 2 Hospital St., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. Interment, Holy Trinity Cemetery, Simpson. A viewing will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to the funeral home website
