Martha B. Mauro

November 18, 2022

Martha B. Mauro, 76, of Carbondale, passed away peacefully Friday after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Raymond Mauro, with whom she recently celebrated 58 years of marriage.

Born in Simpson, daughter of the late Russell Brooks and Antoinette Roskoski Brooks Antrim and husband, Bill Antrim, she was a 1964 graduate of Fell High School. She worked in the garment industry before becoming a Certified Nurse Aide and Medical Instrument Technician. She was employed for many years at Marian Community Hospital before retiring from Wayne Memorial Hospital in 2019. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale.

Martha was the most selfless mother and Nonni. Her family, especially her grandchildren, were her pride and joy, and she loved attending their sporting events and celebrating their accomplishments. She also loved traveling to Walt Disney World and the beach, her Mickey Mouse collectables, word search books, and Hallmark Channel movies. Her Sunday dinners of macaroni and chicken cutlets, and her abundant platters of Christmas cookies will be missed by the entire family. Although she was so much more than that, words cannot describe all she was and all she did for her family. She leaves an enormous hole in our hearts, and in the world, with her passing.

Surviving are children, Thomas, and wife Laura, Carbondale; Ray, and wife Erika, Crystal Lake; Mary, and husband Fred, Fell Township; and Anthony, and wife Jennifer, Archbald; grandchildren, Thomas Jr. (and wife Mora Hoyle), Moriah, Mackenzie, and Noah Mauro; Morgan and Jared Mauro; and Nathan and Matthew Totsky; Jordan and Christopher Mellon; and Danielle (husband Josh) Toungett; and Dustin Mancuso; and Anthony, Grayson, and Ali Mauro; brothers, Stephen Brooks, New Jersey, and Robert Antrim, Peckville; sister, Suzanne Sczepaniak, Michigan; as well as great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Bernadette.

The family would like to thank the staff at Dr. Matthew Haley’s office, the VNA Hospice, the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, and the Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Hart Place for their kindness and compassionate care towards Martha throughout her illness.

The funeral will be Tuesday from the Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 74 North Main St., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. Those attending the funeral are kindly asked to report directly to church. Interment, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Carbondale.

Friends may call on Monday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer an online condolence, visit the funeral home’s website.
