Gail Marie Smith Yurkanin

Gail Marie Smith Yurkanin, 69, of Greenfield Township, passed away Monday night at the Jewish Home of Eastern PA, Scranton, after a long battle with cancer. Her husband is Andrew John Yurkanin. They celebrated 50 years of marriage last October 7th. Gail was the daughter of the late Thomas and Gladys Smith. She spent her early years in Archbald and also New Jersey.

Foremost in Gail’s life was her desire to serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Although not having a job outside the home, she had a full time job, and had dedicated most of her life, caring for her 11 children and her husband, whom she loved dearly. Her most cherished possessions were the memories she made raising her children. She loved sharing the stories of them with others. Gail loved the pet dogs she had had over the years, cooking for others, Hymn music and dancing to the Oldies.. She was also very proud of her Irish heritage. She had a gift of creativity and artistry, which she passed onto to some her children.

Of all these, her greatest legacy will be her strong faith that she spoke of to all she knew. Gail spent her final days surrounded by her family, and her beloved husband, who, through it all, sacrificed his sleep and comfort, to be sure she was well cared for. She will be greatly missed. We rejoice in knowing she is free from the pain of this world and filled with the everlasting peace and joy at her final home in the embrace of her Lord. ” To live is Christ, to die, is gain”, Philippians 1:21

Surviving are 7 sons: Andrew and wife Amanda Sellersville, Aaron and wife Danielle, Montdale, Matthew and wife Rebecca, Mesa AZ, Donald and wife Rachel, Jefferson Twp., Joel and wife Amy, Dickson City, Jeric and wife Debbie, Archbald, Reigner and wife Kara, Jessup, as well as 4 daughters, Gaileen and husband, Eric, Archbald, Jessica, Nicholson, Bethany, Greenfield Twp. Rayah, Clifford. 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, 1 brother Thomas Gerald Smith, Peckville, and 1 sister Sharon Rizzo, NJ, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother Donald Smith.

The family would like to express special thanks to the Sacred Heart Hospice and The Jewish Home Center for all the care and concern shown to Gail by all of their staff.

The funeral was held Friday, April 13, 2018, from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale, with services at 10 AM in the Peckville Assembly of God Church, by Pastor Terry Drost, Route 6 Blakely.  Interment was in the Valley View Memorial Park, Scott Township.  Pallbearers:  Andrew, Aaron, Matthew, Donald, Joel, Jeric, and Reigner Yurkanin (sons).

The family received friends, Thursday evening, April 12, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 74 North Main St., Carbondale.
