John A. Wayman

December 3, 2023

John A. Wayman, 52, of Jermyn, died Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center.

Born in Carbondale, son of Lora Chellino and the late John Wayman, he was a class of 1990 Lakeland High School graduate, a member of Lakeland’s undefeated 1987 Eastern Football Conference championship team, a Johnson College graduate with a bio-medical degree, and a lifelong Las Vegas (Oakland) Raiders fan. He was a maintenance supervisor and employed by Azek Co.

He had a sense of humor that could make anyone laugh and brighten their day, he laughed just as much as what came out of his mouth as everyone else did. He was a true example of selflessness and was willing to help anyone and did so with a smile on his face as helping those he cared for made him the happiest. He could go anywhere and make friends that would remember him for life, and everyone that was close to him outside the family looked up to him like a big brother or father figure.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by fiancée, Jolene Cox, Jermyn; two sons, Joshua Wayman, Scranton; Matthew Wayman; two daughters, Sarah Wayman and Hailey Wayman, all of Jermyn; a brother, Storm Chellino and wife, Tera Chellino, Scott Twp.; a sister, Chenoa Cox and husband, Ed Cox, Scranton; a stepbrother, John Ranallo, Carbondale; ex-wife, Ann Burgio, Greenfield Twp.; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by late stepfathers, John Chellino and Richard Evarts.

The funeral will be Saturday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale. A service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home by Pastor Norm Demming. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park, Scott Twp.

A viewing will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to the funeral home website.
