Philip A. Pettinato, 91, of Carbondale died Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. His wife is the former Joan Zeznock.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Philip “Bull” and Margaret Solt Pettinato, Philip or “Lil Bull” to all who knew him, was a devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather and a true friend to all who loved him. He was drafted into the United States Army to the Korean War during his senior year in high school; later earning an honorary high school diploma to acknowledge his service to his country.

He owned and operated Pettinato Trucking and Excavating for over 45 years and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a committee member for the Special Olympics Area P golf tournament fundraiser for several years. Phil was a staple at Mazza Linen, where he had a permanent seat at the round table and a post in the kitchen, cooking for whoever walked through the door. Phil lived a very rich life, full of family and friends who cherished him immensely and will miss him dearly.

Surviving are a son, Randal Pettinato and his significant other, Cindy Specht, Simpson; a daughter, Lori Golecki and husband, Joseph, Greenfield Twp.; grandchildren, Christopher Golecki and fiancé, Rebecca Hunsinger; Larissa Pettinato; Alexa Jordan and husband, Michael; a sister, Ann Wasnock, Lansdale: several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Serafine “Sam” Pettinato; and a sister, Marie Zimmerman.

The funeral will be Monday, March 11, 2024, from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Entombment, with military honors, will be held at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.

A viewing will be held Sunday in the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the funeral home website.
