Maria (Chellino) Murgia

Maria (Chellino) Murgia, 97, passed away Wednesday evening, March 13, 2024, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.  Her husband, John Murgia, died in 2007.

Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Frances Tolerico and Anthony Chellino, she was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  Maria graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School and Scranton’s Lackawanna College. She worked in the office of Ben Weisburg Dress Factory and then was the office manager for her husband’s accounting business.  She was a member of The Day of Joy and Gladness Prayer Group.

Maria’s survivors include, daughter Mary Frances (Miffy) Froncek and her husband, Matt, Crystal Lake; 2 beloved grandchildren, Matthew and Liza, at home, Crystal Lake.

The funeral will be Monday, March 18, 2024, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.  The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 a.m. until mass time.
