Samuel A Mancuso

March 19, 2024

Samuel A. Mancuso, 89, of Carbondale, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife is the former Joan Weidig. They celebrated 61 years of marriage in September.

Born in Carbondale on April 24, 1934, he was the son of late Santo and Theresa Mancuso. Sam was a 1952 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. Prior to retirement, he worked for 33 years at Tobyhanna Army Depot. After retirement he spent 26 years working at Lowe’s Home Improvement where he offered plumbing advice and a friendly smile to all. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army Reserves.

Sam’s life was centered around his faith. He was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale where he wore many hats. He served as a Eucharistic minister and taught baptism and RCIA classes.

Sam was happiest spending time with his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was always there to lend an ear, give advice and help with any project. An avid guitar player, he frequently told stories of his early days playing in the band at the Hillside Inn where he met the love of his life, Joan. They had a love like no other. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed gardening, trips to West Point Army football games and summer excursions to Florida.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Michele Lyons and husband, John, Alburtis; Gregory and wife, Frani, Dunmore; grandchildren, Kody Ransom and wife, Kristin; Morgan Omernik and husband, Daniel; Julia and Mariah Mancuso; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Anthony, Frank, Joseph, Anne, Rose, Theresa and Mary.

The family would like to thank his nephew and neighbor, Toby and his wife, Ursla Mancuso for their unwavering support and kindness, Dr. Neal Davis and the staff at Regional Hospital for their compassionate care.

Sam touched the lives of many with his kindness and humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The funeral will be Monday, March 25, 2024, from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.

A viewing will be held Sunday, March 24, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to the funeral home website.
