Bessie Ann (Lowe) Lombardo
April 26, 2024
Bessie Ann (Lowe) Lombardo, a vibrant spirit with a love for life, literature, and pugs, passed away April 26th, 2024, at the age of 92. Bess, as she preferred to be known, was born in Charleston, West Virginia, to William B. Lowe and Agnes C. (Newark) Lowe. Bess spent her formative years in Riegelsville, Pennsylvania, graduating from Nockamixon High School in 1948. Her love for words led her to earn a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Rutgers University and later embark on a successful career in sales with Johnson & Johnson.
After retirement, Bess’s entrepreneurial spirit blossomed as she founded Lowe McBrae, a dental products distribution and marketing firm. When not working, Bess found joy in writing short stories inspired by her life experiences and the fascinating people she encountered. She was a devoted pug enthusiast. Bess shared her life and love with her pugs Rose and Cleopatra. Her constant companions filled her retirement years with laughter, long walks, and convertible rides.
Bess is predeceased by her husband, Nicholas J. Lombardo. She leaves behind a legacy with her four children: Melanie Rice (married to Peter), Cynthia Vogt, Alison Bessesdotter, and Rocco Lombardo (partner to Aiola); her grandchildren, Cristine Figueroa (married to Gonzalo) and Teo Vesuvio Ferrucci; and her great-grandchildren, Ricardo and Marcus Figueroa. She will also be dearly missed by her grand-dogs, Charlie, Luna, and Estrella.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. Inurnment, St. Agnes Cemetery, Forest City.
Arrangements, Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 2 Hospital St., Carbondale. To offer an online condolence, visit the funeral home’s website.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pug Rescue organization would be a fitting tribute to Bess’s compassionate heart and love for pugs.
