James G. Salvatore, 93, Carbondale died Thursday at home. His wife was the late Dorothy Levine Salvatore.

Born in Childs, son of the late Paul and Jennie Bridget Salvatore, James was an Army WWII veteran. He worked in the garment industry for 30 years and worked at Allied Services for 11 years.

He enjoyed refinishing furniture and collecting antiques. James was a horse racing fan and a fan of playing the lottery. James was a faithful donor to St. Jude’s and various children’s causes. James was an usher at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish Church for many years.  He enjoyed spending time with special friends, Pat and Jean Tighe and his best friend, his kitty, BoBo. The family thanks neighbors, Sal and Ann Wasnock for their special friendship and the staff of Allied Home Health and Allied Hospice for their compassionate care.

Surviving are a son, Paul Salvatore and fiancé, Louise Polach, Crystal Lake; daughter, Paula Nestrick and husband, Eugene, Archbald; wonderful caregiver/daughter, Esther Salvatore, at home; three grandchildren, Paul Salvatore, Christine Richards and Janelle Nestrick; three great-grandchildren, Paul James Salvatore Jr., Gavin Richards and Mackenzie Richards, several nieces and nephews, as well as family friend, Winnie Rizner.

He was preceded in death by siblings: Mary McHale, Yolanda Salvatore, Theresa Salvatore, Esther Linsinbigler, Frances Edmunds, Carmella Salvatore, Augustine Kennedy, Giovanni Salvatore and Paul Salvatore.

The funeral will be Monday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc, 74 N. Main St., Carbondale with Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.

Viewing will be Sunday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
